John Whisner, Development Officer

I am excited to serve as the Development Officer at Thousand Pines, where I’ve had the privilege of working for the past three years. During my time here, I’ve witnessed life-changing experiences through our ministry, and I am honored to be part of this incredible work.

In my role, I focus on building relationships with YOU—our ministry partners—who make this ministry possible through your efforts in praying, sharing, serving, learning, and giving. My goal is to ensure that Thousand Pines has the support it needs to continue making a lasting impact on those we serve.

– On that note, I have some updates for you!

BLIZZARD UPDATE

Thank you for your prayer and support! We have recently regained traction on our Blizzard Relief and Recovery projects. As a result of the 'snowmageddon' blizzard of 2023, we sustained extensive damage to some of our facilities. Most notably, four of our “rustic cabins” were damaged beyond repair, and a fifth rustic cabin collapsed during the blizzard. They were cabins 2, 12, 15, 16, and 17. These compromised cabins were recently demolished, and we’ve just received approval for their rebuild! We hope to move along with this rebuild quickly and break ground as soon as possible.

We appreciate your ongoing support to aid in our cabin rebuilds and remodels. For more information on Blizzard Relief updates, see our website!

WINTER CAMP '25 UPDATE

Winter Camp 2025 has just wrapped up! This year's theme was Rhythms – Keeping in Step with the Spirit, based on Galatians 5:25: “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Overall, camp went very well! Here are some counselor comments about their campers' experiences this year:

  • “The Holy Spirit was so at work. We loved the theme and my girls had personal experiences with God. Girls shared things they haven’t told anyone before and shared brokenness so vulnerably. Thank you for the work you’re doing! Heaven rejoices!”

  • “We had 3 girls come to faith in Christ! The gospel was presented clearly through the weekend. Others made decisions to take seriously their walk with Jesus.”

  • “God is at work in our students and you all share in that by providing the space, atmosphere, opportunities for conversation, prayer and just overall service. Thank you! Appreciate you!”

Thanks to all of your generous support, we were able to provide 14 campers with partial scholarships that helped them attend Winter Camp. They were able to attend camp and experience God and His creation because of YOUR support!

The need for camper scholarships is constant and growing. If you would like to support, or continue to support in this area of need, I encourage you to choose the designation “Camper Scholarships” next time you give.

We had an amazing one-day service group join us to help take down our Winter Camp set. Here are some pictures from the project:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN 2O24!

Thank you to everyone who supported us with year-end gifts at the close of 2024. Your generous contributions were a meaningful blessing as we stepped into the new year. Whether you support us monthly or occasionally, we couldn’t do what we do without you!

If you would like to learn more about our monthly “Circle of Support” option, please check out our support page or reach out to me with any questions you may have.

WHAT'S NEXT?

As the Winter season comes to a close, we start to look forward to spring and summer. As many of you know, camp is very lively in spring! We will continue hosting Guest Groups on the weekends and our Outdoor Education program throughout the week. Later into spring, we are looking forward to our annual Women’s Retreat, Spring Family Camp, and Young Adults’ Retreat.

If you are looking for simple ways to get involved in our ministry, please:

  • Pray for this upcoming spring season and how it will lead us into Summer Camp.

  • Consider serving—there are many service opportunities this spring. Check out our website here!

  • Share your camp experience with a friend and encourage them to attend an upcoming event.

  • If God has given you the ability to give financially, please continue to do so!

  • If you are looking for a different way to get involved, or would like to learn more about what’s going on here at camp, please reach out.

Lastly, we will be organizing various events this year for our ministry partners (YOU!) to attend here at camp. Look out for future newsletters with further information on these events—hope to see you there!

I am passionate about the work we do at Thousand Pines and the way it shapes lives. I look forward to partnering with you to ensure that more children, families, and individuals experience the transformative power of camp. Thank you for your continued support—your involvement helps us fulfill our mission of helping people see, know, and experience God.

God bless!
